A double rapist from Romania attacked another woman at a nightclub just months after arriving in the UK. Vasile Nastase, 49, danced with his victim at the Est 1899 nightclub, in Leigh, Greater Manchester, before he raped her back at his home, Bolton Crown Court heard. The woman, 41, had met up with friends in Leigh and was drunk when she arrived at the nightspot. The court was shown CCTV footage of Nastase with his arms around her on the dance floor and the pair kissing. They left together two hours later and headed towards Nastase’s home, half a mile away. Vanesa Thomson, prosecuting, said: “During the course of this walk she began to feel very uneasy about the situation and believed that she was not safe. “She tried to distance herself from him but to no avail.” The woman tried to go past his house to a busy road junction but Nastase bundled her inside and raped her. Ms Thomson continued: “He pushed her to the back of the house onto a couch where he removed her leather trousers and her underwear. “The complainant was so fearful at this stage that she wet herself. “She repeatedly told him ‘no’ during this and told him that she wanted to go home but again he was not put off and he was rough with her. “The complainant formed the conclusion it was better to not to fight back because she was afraid that she was going to die.” The court was told after 10 minutes Nastase stopped but wouldn’t allow her to leave and then asked for oral sex. The woman refused and “tried to build up an element of trust” with Nastase who allowed her to go around 8am. She returned with a relative when she realised her mobile phone was there and Nastase showed them to a dustbin where he had thrown it after they threatened to go to the police. Ms Thomson said: “It was at this stage that the complainant decided the matter had to be reported to the police because she was afraid this man could do the same thing to someone else.” After being arrested, Nastase, a painter and decorator, eventually admitted the offence. The court heard that Nastase was sentenced to six years in prison in 1993 for beating and raping a woman he met at a disco in Romania. Again in his home country, in 2009, he was jailed for 10 years for kidnapping a woman he met at a disco and raping her at his home. Judge Smith adjourned sentencing until next Tuesday but told Nastase he can expect a “long sentence”. The Home Office is likely to deport Nastase when he is eventually released from prison, the court was told.
